Scatter Flowers?!

Scattering Flowers or Eating Canoes???
Passion? "What is your passion?"
When this question was presented to me by my English teacher, I knew it would come down to one word, love. My passion will be what I love. The author/speaker, Robin Jones Gunn, has a very good insight on the word love.

"Love, in all its forms, is a complex concept. Yet, we have only one word for it. Doesn't seem quite adequate to cover all the bases, does it? In comparison, the Hawaiian language has sixty-nine words for wind. This one element affects life on the island in vastly different ways depending on the form it takes. You can imagine the difference between walking outside and feeling the light, 'scattering flowers' wind (Lupua) as opposed to opening the front door and facing the (Aiko'o) 'canoe eating' wind. It would sure help if we had sixty-nine words for the various forms and meanings of love...[God's love,] real love, [is] not the 'scattering flowers' sort of fleeting love. God's ferocious affection for His children is a passionate, 'canoe eating,' life changing, lay-down-His-life-for-you sort of love."

My name is Lilly Golden and I have always believed myself to be a girl of many passions, such as guitar and music, any form of competition, volunteer work, reading, nature, and my relationships with my friends and family. However, my everlasting, 'canoe eating,' life-changing and guiding passion is my love for God and the joy and peace he brings to my life. I want others to be able to experience this love, joy, and peace as well.
Because I have a 'canoe eating' love for God, it leaks out through my life and into my other 'scattering flowers' passions. I may live in this world and enjoy the things of life, but God will always my Aiko'o, 'canoe eating' passion.

  1. Obviously your love for God is ferocious. However, I believe you can separate ferocious from Love. In doing so, ferocious becomes less of an adjective that describes your love and begins to describe your relationship with those in your life that are not deity. Those relationships, and I have your friends who can testify to this, can often be described as just loving on its own or ferocious, again, alone. But, the closer we (your friends) get to your heart, the more we realize that ferocious love exists and it makes it all worthwhile. Probably.
